OPEN KITCHEN WITH VIEWS
The second great novelty of this
renovation is the opening of the
Aduana restaurant on the seventh
floor of the Gran Meliá Fénix. The
new dining room, named after the
place in Palos de Moguer where
Columbus left for America, has
a mixed-Mediterranean cuisine.
Intimate, it only has room for 16
people inside and 16 on the terrace,
with privileged views of the
Plaza Colón, where the financial,
tourist and luxury centres converge
in Madrid.
Los antiguos doseles de las camas han dado paso a cabeceros de diseño contemporáneo / The old bed canopies have
given way to contemporary designed headboards
Crude and more neutral tones
To bring freshness to its British style, always
somewhat ornate, Álvaro Sans has decided to
move from the ochre and dark tones in fabrics
and canopies, to a new set of materials and
fabrics in white and raw tones. Thus, the main
change occurs in the rooms, with a style that
oscillates between the classic and the modern
with solutions such as the change in the fabrics
that cover the walls by smooth and white murals.
Also, the old canopy of the beds has given
way to more modern headboards; in addition to
incorporating ‘walk-in wardrobes ‘ in the One
Bedroom Suites.
As Ángel Bravo, General Director at Initiative
Contract Design, the company responsible for
interior design, explains “always thinking about
the comfort of the client, we have designed spaces
that are relaxing and at the same time work
as a workplace, thanks to the use of neutral and
natural colours to achieve both amplitude and
a relaxing effect “. This has been achieved by
using different elements such as a built-in carpet,
walls in light tones and dim lighting, with
table lamps and foot light warm and soft. In
the same way, the furniture has been selected
with the intention of transmitting that classic
and avant-garde style that characterizes the establishment
which is, “always thinking about
sophistication”, says Ángel Bravo.
This ‘restyling’ has been especially installed in
the Red Level rooms, which also boast private
‘lounges’ in the Red Level. All these suites have
panoramic views, terrace and private hydromassage
have received the new design. The
Presidential Penthouse Suite Red Level, which
throughout the 70 years of existence of the hotel
has hosted great personalities of European
and international royalty and leading figures in
the political, economic and cultural, is a particular
highlight. The hotel is a unique refuge of
more than 200 m² in size in the heart of Madrid.
Luxury bathrooms
The re-modelling has also been busy modernizing
the building materials of the hotel and has
significantly changed the appearance of the
bathrooms. All the taps in the new rooms are
Hansgrohe, and the Red Level rooms have a
large shower in 3 positions (bath, hand shower
and waterfall shower). In the suites, in addition,
there are free-standing bathtubs are incorporated
that allow the possibility of enjoying the
television channels, thanks to the incorporation
of a transparent glass.
